WYCD Hosts Fox Theatre Benefit for Military Families

On November 6, Entercom’s WYCD-FM (Detroit) hosted “Stars and Strings,” a benefit for military families with an artist lineup that would look impressive on a major festival bill, let alone performing together in the relatively intimate environment of a theater: Heavyweight hit-makers including Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Kelsea Ballerini, Maren Morris, Ryan Hurd, Jon Pardi and Brett Young took part in the program, an evening of collaborative acoustic performances and storytelling.

Produced by WYCD, the show was a project of Radio.com and its parent company, Entercom. This is the inaugural “Stars and Strings” in Detroit after several years in Chicago, where it was spearheaded by Tim Roberts, WYCD program director and then-vice president of country music with CBS Radio.

“It’s a signature event for the country format, which is why it’s such a big show and why so many artists want to participate,” said Roberts.

Proceeds are earmarked for Folds of Honor, an Oklahoma-based organization that awards educational scholarships to children and spouses of fallen and wounded service members.
