WILX-TV Holds Telethon To Find Bell Ringer Volunteers

WILX Anchor/Reporter Maureen Halliday

This past Wednesday (10/13), Gray Television’s WILX-TV held a different type of telethon; one that wasn’t intended to directly raise money, but rather intended to find volunteers in the community to help the Salvation Army this upcoming hollday season.  Every year, Salvation Army volunteers are out ringing bells and collecting toys to help make sure area families have a happy holiday season.

The station reported that the red kettles are the Salvation Army Lansing Capital Region’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Donations that are received during the holiday season support Salvation Army programs in the mid-Michigan area all year long. Red kettle bell ringers will be out collecting donations starting Friday, November 19 through Friday, December 24.

The Salvation Army says it has seen an increase in the need for its services in 2021. It expects that trend to continue into 2022.
