On Thursday evening (6/18), a coalition of northern and Upper Peninsula Michigan television stations hosted Governor Gretchen Whitmer for a coronavirus town hall, dubbed “Ask the Governor.”
WBUP-TV (Ishpeming), WFQX/WFUP-TV (Cadillac/Vanderbilt), WGTU/WGTQ (Traverse City/Sault Ste. Marie), WJMN-TV (Marquette) and WLUC-TV (Marquette) joins forces and presented an hour with the Governor, including issues that viewers wanted to know more about regarding coronavirus and the state’s response.
The broadcast was hosted by WGTU/WGTQ’s Marc Shollett and WWTV/WFQX’s Kevin Essebagger. Also asking questions were Steve Asplund of WLUC, Trent Bailey of WBUP and James Fillmore of WJMN. WWTV/WFQX News Director Sean Mahon told the MAB Friday Morning, “This was truly a collaborative effort between five stations, and the outcome was a success. We wanted to make sure Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula’s voice was heard during these unprecedented times, I think we accomplished this last night!”
