Nexstar Closes on Media General; Kniowski Promoted
Following the long-awaited FCC approval of the purchase of Media General by Nexstar Media Group, the company closed on the transaction on January 17.
With the closing, Nexstar has promoted WOOD-TV (Grand Rapids) General Manager (and former MAB Chairman) Diane Kniowski to Senior Vice President and Regional Manager.
In this new role, Kniowski will oversee Nexstar’s stations in Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota.
Kniowski served as general manager of WOOD-TV, WOTV-TV and WXSP-TV for 17 years. She also served as regional manager, overseeing station operations in Michigan and Indiana.
With the purchase of the Media General stations, Nexstar now owns WOOD/WOTV/WXSP-TV in Grand Rapids, WLNS-TV in Lansing and WJMN-TV in Marquette. Additionally in Lansing, the company has assumed a joint sales and shared services agreement with WLAJ-TV.
The search for Kniowski’s replacement is underway.
