Midwestern Broadcasting Closes on WKLT; New Morning Show and Simulcast
On February 24, Midwestern Broadcasting closed on its purchase of Northern Broadcast’s WKLT-FM (Kalkaska/Traverse City) and, on first day of ownership, brought back Steve ‘Omelette’ Normandin to the station’s morning show. “Omelette & Friends” was previously heard on WKLT from 2006-2016. He later hosted mornings on WGFN/WCHY. Joining ‘Omelette’ will be Derek ‘Sasquatch’ Geisser, who is moving from afternoons on the station.
Midwestern also announced that its WBCM-FM (Boyne City) will begin simulcasting WKLT. The simulcast began late afternoon on Tuesday, February 25. WBCM had been simulcasting Midwestern’s WTCM-FM (Traverse City) for several decades. Since the early 90s, WKLT had been simulcast on WKLZ-FM (Petoskey), however WKLZ has been sold to the Educational Media Foundation (EMF) and is expected to adopt a non-commercial religious format fed by satellite from its California studios.
WKLT is presently operating with its longtime studio in the Northern Broadcast facility until a new studio in the Midwestern Broadcasting complex is completed.
