Michigan Learning Channel Presents Statewide “Return to School” Townhall

On September 8, the Michigan Learning Channel, Detroit Public Television and the COVID313 Coalition presented “Michigan’s Great Return to School Statewide Town Hall.”  The 90-minute virtual live event was presented on Facebook along with the Michigan Learning Channel and DPTV’s One Detroit websites.  The program featured discussion, guidance and resources to help make this a great school year for Michigan children and their families. State School Superintendent Dr. Michael Rice and State Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun were among the leaders offering advice to parents as they prepare for new school year.

The event was designed to empower families with information so they can be true partners in their children’s education. Topics include how parents can engage with their child’s school and teachers and how they can provide learning support at home. There will also be information on keeping children safe and healthy, as well as information about services to support child and family physical and mental health.

Rich Homberg, President and CEO of Detroit Public Television, called the town hall a “Huge, wonderful success. Students/Parents/Teachers, we’ll be your partners for this critical year. Thanks to amazing Michigan Learning Channel/Covid 313 partners. Michigan stations, tonight we added another tool to the kit. Thanks, all.”
