I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

WNEM, a Meredith Corporation TV station, is recruiting for an exceptional Anchor/MMJ to join our team. The WNEM Anchor/MMJ researches, writes, reports, shoots video and edits news material for television newscasts and all WNEM news platforms. This includes writing and posting daily on all digital platforms, including social media.  The successful candidate will also anchor newscasts on a regular basis. This position coordinates with Content Center/Assignment Desk and team of multi- media producers to deliver compelling and promotable content. The Anchor/MMJ contributes live shots utilizing microwave, satellite and other technology for feeding stories to Content Center.  This individual will be called upon to represent WNEM in public in a professional and courteous manner.

Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results

60% – Serves as anchor for TV newscasts.  Presents content from news set and live in the field at the scene of breaking news and special events. Writes and copy edits news content for maximum viewer appeal, comprehension, impact and clarity. Delivers content in an energetic and compelling manner. Displays leadership skills in support of news management goals and audience management strategies.

20% – Shoots, writes and edits news packages and/or investigative and special projects content. Performs live reports and topical teases on daily basis. Generates enterprise story ideas, cultivates news sources and remains knowledgeable regarding places, events and people in the news, local or national.

10% – Contributes to our minute-by-minute digital news efforts on all platforms with web content, Facebook and Twitter posts and live digital reports utilizing any and all new technologies.

10% – Serves as community ambassador for the news department, responding to viewer calls and emails, by making personal appearances on behalf of the station and by attending station sponsored promotion events as scheduled.



III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.


Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.



At least five years’ experience in broadcast journalism. Experience as a newscast anchor and lead story reporter preferred.


Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must possess advanced understanding of legal and ethical issues impacting journalism.

Ability to combine words and pictures into informative and interesting news stories.

Ability to shoot, write and edit packaged reports.

Ability to handle breaking news live coverage.

Strong social media skills.

Advanced knowledge of the region, government, demographics and public figures.

Ability to copy edit stories as necessary, shooting and editing video content.

Ability to perform quality work in high pressure deadline situations.

Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Must be computer proficient and familiar with online databases.

Other duties as assigned.

Must possess valid Driver’s License.
