The MAB has learned that former Lake Superior Community Broadcasting Corporation (WBUP/WBKP-TV) Chief Engineer Gerald H. (Gerry) Heyn passed away May 29 at age 83.
Heyn, who was featured in a 2016 MAB Engineering Spotlight, also spent 23 years at WNMU-TV and Radio. He also worked in communication systems, repairing CCTV cameras used for mining, paper and pulp industries and power companies and installing commercial sound systems including Muzak.
Heyn also served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years with 15 of those years in electronics; the last 10 of those years in the Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (PMEL) as calibration technician.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Patricia Heyn of Gwinn; his daughter, Amanda Heyn of Menasha, WI; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four brothers, and two sisters.
