Cromwell Group Expands into Michigan

Bayard H. Walters

Nashville, Tenn.-based group owner Cromwell Group, which operates 31 stations in Tennessee, Illinois and Kentucky is moving into Michigan with purchase of WABJ-AM/WQTE-FM (Adrian) from Friends Communications of Michigan.  The sale was filed with the FCC on November 1.

Cromwell Group was established in 1969 when Founder/President Bayard H. Walters applied to the FCC for permission to construct a new AM radio station in Kentucky.  That station went on the air in 1972.

Friends Communications has owned WABJ/WQTE since 1990.  The sale apparently does not include co-located WBZV-FM (Hudson).
