CMU Broadcaster Don Chiodo Dies Following Traffic Accident
The MAB has learned that Central Michigan University football and men’s basketball broadcaster Don Chiodo died Wednesday, December 4, from injuries he suffered in a traffic accident that same day. The 1990 graduate of CMU joined the football broadcasts in 1996 and eventually became the play-by-play voice in 2010. Chiodo had been calling men’s basketball games since 2011.
“I am truly devastated,” said Michael Alford, Zyzelewski Family associate vice president/director of athletics, in a press release. “Don was an important part of our athletics family and his passing is a great loss. Don was one of the fiercest advocates for all our programs and had a passion for telling the great stories of our student-athletes.”
“Words can’t describe the hurt I feel for his family and they are in our thoughts and prayers. Don will always be remembered as the voice of the Chippewas, a legacy that will go on forever,” Alford said.
Chiodo’s broadcasting career included stops at WMMI/WCZY (Mt.Pleasant); Michigan Talk Radio Network; WNEM-TV (Saginaw); WTCM (Traverse City); WPBN-TV (Traverse City) and WCEN (Mt. Pleasant).
