Andy Robins Retires from WMUK

Andy Robins

Longtime WMUK-FM (Kalamazoo) News Director Andy Robbins has retired.  He hung up his microphone at the end of 2021 after 36 years of service to the station.  He joined the station in 1985 and had been WMUK’s News Director since 1998.

Robins succeeded previous News Director Tony Griffin, who had passed in 1997. Under Robins’ editorial leadership, WMUK-FM won numerous journalism awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters, the regional Associated Press, and the Public Media Journalists Association. The Station also won two regional Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio and Television News Directors Association.

Robins also oversaw an expansion of WMUK’s newsroom, and continually sought the highest standards of ethical journalism and integrity, helping to shape WMUK as one of the news leaders for our region.

Robins started in radio in 1974, spending two years at WKPR-AM (Kalamazoo).  He also spent time at WUHQ-TV (now WOTV) in Battle Creek, running the audio board in master control and as a camera operator.
