Assisting all Michigan citizens through the digital transition is a priority for the MAB and its members. That's why this "next step" partnership will be a smart, group effort to maximize key organizations that implement a grass roots effort for help.

Summer Sales Seminar Recap

Broadcasters gain skills at MAB Summer Sales Seminars with Kennen Williams

MAB concluded its Summer Sales Seminars in late August. Over 140 broadcasters attended this one of a kind sales training offered in three cities; Grand Rapids, Wixom and Mackinaw City. A total of 75 call letters were represented.

Sports WDFN AM 1130 has made it official and hired Matt Shepard as it's new morning show host. Listeners will be able to wake up and turn on Matt Shepard weekday mornings full time from 6am to 9am.

West Michigan native, Tara Miller, joins WXMI

She's reported on a world famous golf tournament, interviewed Tiger Woods and watched her share of University of Georgia football games. But after spending three years as a broadcast sports reporter in Augusta, Ga., Tara Miller is back in West Michigan, as Fox 17's weekend sports reporter.

Eileen Gikas, a veteran of over 20 years of sales, marketing and management experience, has joined the staff at CBS-owned WWJ-TV (CBS) and WKBD (CW) Detroit as business development sales manager.

Important Election-Time Distinctions for Station Websites

While navigating the multitude of FCC rules surrounding political broadcasts can be burdensome for many, station websites are often over looked to fill requests election season coverage. For the most part, FCC regulations do not apply to station for websites. FCC political rules largely only apply when website coverage is included as part of a package which includes airtime.

Members Connecting to their Communities

WILX-TV Hosts "Operation Backpack"
WILX, Two Men and a Truck, and St. Vincent Catholic Charities kicked off their campaign "Operation Backpack" last month. People from the community brought in new backpacks and stuffed them with school supplies for needy children. Over the course of the month, more than 150 backpacks were collected at the station.

WXYZ-TV holds 31st Annual "Healthy Living for Kids"
WXYZ- TV/Channel 7 and The Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion gave thousands of Detroit metro area children a "boost" at the 31st annual "HEALTHY LIVING FOR KIDS" program.

Michigan Radio's "Ashes to Hope" has won a national Edward R. Murrow Award for Documentary from RTNDA.  This is the first Murrow award given to the news/programming units of Michigan Radio.

"The Lynn Rivers Show'' returns from summer hiatus on WEMU (89.1 FM). Hosted by former U.S. Rep. Lynn Rivers, the hour-long program focuses on news, public affairs and constitutional issues with guests from the community and across the country.
