GLBC 2008 in Grand Rapids a Success!
For the first time in 23 years, the Great Lakes Broadcasting Conference & Expo moved its location to the DeVos Place in Grand Rapids. More than 1,300 broadcasters, students and business professionals attended the two-day conference which featured 42 educational events and 60 speakers.

MAB Honors 2007 Broadcast Excellence Award Winners
The 2007 MAB Broadcast Excellence Award ceremony took place March 11 during the Great Lakes Broadcasting Conference & Expo at the Amway Grand Plaza in Grand Rapids. This year’s competition saw 862 entries from 76 stations.

Digital Day Recap
The MAB and its partners hosted “Digital Day at the State Capitol” on February 20. The day kicked off at 11a.m. with a news conference outlining the MAB’s public awareness campaign as well as the benefits and concerns of the digital television transition.

New Reporting and Public File Requirements for TV Stations
Television stations will now be required to file FCC Form 355, a new quarterly programming report, as well as post their public inspection files online. These new requirements apply only to full-power and Class A television stations.

While there have been many false starts, seeming agreement and then just as quickly dissolution, it finally appears that this time it is really not going to happen. WOOD-TV Holds Smoke Detector Giveaway
On Saturday, March 6, WOOD-TV8 in Grand Rapids teamed up with local fire departments and fire protection agencies to distribute free photoelectric smoke detectors to those in need.

The Michigan Association of Public Broadcasters (MAPB) has elected Steve Schram of Michigan Public Media, as MAPB President. The Michigan Public Radio Network (MPRN) has elected John Sheffler of Central Michigan University Public Broadcasting as its President for the 2008-2009 Board term.

WGVU Production Earns Six Telly Awards

WGVU (Grand Rapids) has received six Bronze Awards from the 2008 Telly Awards. These programs were selected from over 14,000 entries received from around the world.

GLBC Career Fair and Career Sessions See Record Attendance
The 2008 GLBC Broadcasting Career Fair took place during GLBC on March 11 at the DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids and saw record attendance. A total of 127 call letters were represented at the career fair and more than 250 students and professionals in attendance.

MAB Foundation Awards Student Broadcasters
This year's MAB Foundation program awarded more than 150 student broadcasters during the 2008 Michigan High School and College Broadcasting Awards presentation on Tuesday, March 11.. The presentation took place during the Main Luncheon at GLBC. This year’s awards program had 425 entries representing 25 different schools.
