The message about the death of former RAB CEO Gary Fries was passed along to Inside Radio this morning by his son Todd.
"I want to thank everyone for their support and prayers," he wrote. "This morning at 12:13 a.m. Arizona time my father peacefully passed away. In leaving this world for a better place, he did it in typical Gary fashion. His determination and heart astounded the entire hospice staff.
"In their process they would most likely have notified the family on Saturday that it would be soon, but in typical Gary mentality he proved them all wrong, going until Friday. For this particular group of people, I thought it would might put a small smile on your face to know that he left on his terms."
Memories of Gary Fries are posted at Inside Radio:
Whether your station is going off the air or moving to a new frequency because of the recent spectrum incentive auction, your viewers need to prepare for these upcoming changes. To that end, NAB has developed tools for stations in English and Spanish to use to explain to viewers the changes that are coming.
These tools are based on research conducted by NAB to determine the best messaging to convey to over-the-air viewers how they will be impacted and what they must do to stay connected to their favorite local stations.

The tools for stations include a checklist of activities to keep you on track, talking points, sample scripts and crawls and even automated phone messaging. The NAB will add more tools in the coming months, including customizable spots for stations to use as well as a video to help viewers understand how to rescan their TV sets.
Stations are urged you to use these tools and coordinate with other stations in your market to send a clear, consistent message and minimize viewer confusion.
As new tools become available, the NAB will alert stations. In the meantime, don't hesitate to contact the NAB at NABMarketing@nab.org.
