Update: Public Notice Reform Passes Committee
House Bill 4183, which redefines the public notice distribution process, passed the House Local Government Committee. The Michigan Association of Broadcasters testified in support of this legislation and has reached out to the state lawmakers to pass this legislation.
The bill allows local television and radio stations to publish public notices on the stations’ websites. The bill also states that the local media outlet must, at least once each day, make a general broadcast or transmission during peak listening or viewing hours indicating that public notices may be found on the local media website. HB 4183 classifies public notices into the three part tiered system that phases in online public notice publication starting in 2016.
Please contact your state representatives and ask them to vote 'YES' on House Bill 4183.
