|Supreme Court Orders Casino Proposal Onto Ballot|
Voters will get the opportunity to decide whether to add eight new casinos in Michigan after all after the Supreme Court overwhelmingly today (8/24) reversed the Court of Appeals and ordered the proposal onto the November ballot.
The Court of Appeals found deficiencies in the casino backers’ petition, namely that the proposal’s language failed to indicate that the proposal altered the Gaming Act, and refused to order the proposal onto the ballot. But the Supreme Court in an order tossed that opinion aside.
Similar legal challenges to other proposals, specifically the collective bargaining and tax limitation ones, also are working their way through the system, and this decision could have huge ramifications for those cases.
