|MAB Partners with 4-H!|
The 4-H recruitment campaign is our newest Public Education Partner. If you think you know 4-H? Think again, because Michigan 4-H offers a diverse range of programs in suburban, urban and rural areas across the state. Programs like 4-H Tech Wizards which operates in metro-Detroit offers small-group mentoring opportunities with a focus on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills are available in rural and urban areas. They offer Urban Framing in Wayne County and a multitude of other programs.
Youth are searching for answers to their questions every day. Participating in Michigan 4-H cam help young people figure out answers to some of these little questions and they will not be alone.
We urge stations to consider featuring their local 4-H clubs in community affairs programs or cover their activities in a “Good News” segment of their local news. Broadcasters could place the news release or a plea for leaders and participants on their websites. Radio could have some of the young people or leaders as guests on the morning talk show or interview a leader in one of the radio news breaks.
The MAB Partnership with 4-H can help change the lives of young people in Michigan by encouraging them to get involved with a local 4-H club. Who knows, some may even become future broadcasters.
Keep track of anything you do with your local 4-H clubs concerning career outreach. It may meet some of your “other” activities in the FCC - EEO requirements.
Let’s help Michigan 4-H tackle its mission to gain more volunteer and youth involvement in their organization. The goal is to expand its reach to 20 percent of the state’s youth population by the year 2020.
