MAB President/CEO Karole L. White)
U.S.Senator Carl Levin (D) received the Distinguished Lifetime of Public Service Award on Tuesday, August 26 at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island as part of their MAB 65th Anniversary Annual Meeting.
The Senator accepted the award before 170 individuals within the broadcasting industry and their guests. He remarked on his career as a public servant and the long relationship he has had with local broadcasters and their importance to the community.
In his 35 years in the Senate, Carl Levin has become one of the nation's most respected leaders on national security, a powerful voice for equality and justice, and a fighter for economic fairness.
Since joining the Senate, he has been a member the Armed Services Committee. From 2001 to 2003 and again from 2007 to the present, he served as the committee's chairman. The Senator focused on taking care of the men and women of our military and their families, supporting much-needed pay raises and improvements in treatment and other policies for wounded warriors. He has led oversight efforts to improve efficiency and reduce cost overruns in expensive weapons programs.
According to Karole White, President and CEO of the MAB, "Senator Levin is very deserving of this award. Throughout his career he has always made time to meet and collaborate with members of the media to ensure that the public is kept informed on all situations. He has served with honor and we are very proud of his accomplishments on behalf of the citizens of Michigan. He will be missed."
