Edward (Ted) Fowler Baughn: 1912-2014
Edward (Ted) Fowler Baughn died August 7, 2014 three weeks short of his 102nd Birthday. Ted was born in Stevensville, Ontario August 27, 1912 the youngest son of James Baughn and Sarah Jane (Birch) Baughn. In 1922 the family moved to Plymouth, Michigan where Ted grew up. On April 6, 1935 Ted married the love of his life Eva Jane Lawrence the daughter of Loyal Leo and Mary Bell “Molly” (Black) Lawrence in Northville Michigan. Jane preceded him in death on March 6, 1999.
Ted began his life-long radio career in 1936 and was associated with radio stations WJMS Ironwood, WELL Battle Creek, WCAR Pontiac, and CKLW Windsor-Detroit before moving to Ann Arbor in 1944 to construct and manage radio station WPAG. With backing from local businessmen Paul and Arthur Greene Ted was founder and President of WPAG AM 1050, WPAG FM 98.7 (1947-53), WPAG FM 107.1 (1969), and WPAG Television Channel 20 (1953-57) until he sold the stations in 1987.
Ted was active in Michigan broadcasting for 51 years. He organized the original Michigan Football Network in 1946 with WPAG as the originating station to carry WPAG’s Bob Ufer broadcasts of University of Michigan football games outstate. He was one of the founders of the Michigan Association of Broadcasters (MAB) in 1949 and served on the first board of directors. Ted was elected President of the association in 1951 and in 1956-1958 he served as a Director representing Michigan and Indiana broadcasters on the board of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB). While on that board he served on the Freedom of Information Committee assisting in the preparation of the Broadcasting Freedom of Information Act. Ted was a Life member of the Ann Arbor (Host) Lions Club where he joined in 1945 and a long time member of West Side Methodist Church. 

Ted is survived by his Daughter Joan (Larry) Miller of Frankfort Mi, Sons James of Milan and John (Carol) Baughn of Clinton, six grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers James, Robert, Winfield, Sister Rose and daughter-in-law Jessica Ann.
